Roberto Clemente, born Puerto Rico, began playing baseball at a young age. Recruited by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Clemente debuted with them in 1955 and only the fifth team in the National League to break the racial barrier at the time. Clemente experienced bigotry at hotels and restaurants during the time he played and became an activist for equality. “He spoke his mind, he truly let people know how he felt. He said he was not asking to be treated better, he was asking to be treated equally.” Join us as we look at the life of this remarkable baseball player and humanitarian.
