“A Jewish Perspective of Yesterday’s Puerto Rico”
The incoming Black and White Photographs are on loan by collectors Minerva Gonzalez and Jonathan Braver. The photographs were taken by the internationally renowned artist Marvin Schwartz, who is of Jewish descent and lived in Puerto Rico for many years.
His work captured some images of the island and its citizens during the 1960s. Among the images is a photograph of Pedro Albizu Campos in a physically vulnerable state, sitting in a wheelchair. This portrait of Puerto Rico’s icon will stimulate conversations of a life that gave his mind, body, and soul for his beloved people.
