This intensive advanced field video production certification course will give students the opportunity to produce a 4-7-minute mini-documentary based on a theme developed by the media education department. Students will learn how to script, plan, shoot and edit a mini-documentary. Students will also learn composition and image control techniques along with strategies for capturing the best sound in the field.
Students will use MNN’s Canon C-100 and professional audio equipment to produce their documentary. Additional out-of-class hours will be required and students must supply their own Mac-formatted hard drive to store and edit their media.
This course will be held on select Wednesdays and Fridays. There will be a public screening of all mini-documentaries at Manhattan Neighborhood Network and will be scheduled to air on MNN’s cablecast and digital platforms at MNN’s discretion.
Upon completion of this course, students will obtain Advanced Field Certification, giving them access to MNN’s C100 Digital Cine camera for their own MNN productions. Certification is based on a demonstrated mastery of the equipment, regular class attendance and the submission of a completed mini-documentary.
